A general term used in international drug control conventions to describe activities that aim to reduce consumer demand for (illegal) drugs. Drug demand reduction includes drug prevention, treatment and rehabilitation approaches. It differs from supply reduction which aims to limit the production and distribution of (illegal) drugs through law enforcement. In practice, drug demand reduction and supply reduction complement each other to form comprehensive drugs policies.
